A man accused of trying to steal a spunky 97-year-old woman’s Pomeranian outside her Brooklyn home was located Wednesday, interviewed, then cleared of any wrongdoing, police said.
The man whose picture was released to the media Tuesday evening — along with video of him near the victim’s Mapleton home — told cops he’d never threatened the woman with his umbrella, as she contended, or tried to steal her dog.
Then, police said, the dog owner was interviewed again and said she might have misinterpreted what the man did.
“She has cataracts,” a police source said. “It looks like she was confused about what happened.”
The crime that turned out not to be a crime happened around 2 p.m. Monday near Dahill Road and 24th Ave.
Early Wednesday afternoon, shortly before police announced no crime had been committed, the woman explained what happened.
“She’s my life saver — if she hears a sound, she barks,” she said of her dog.
“The day of the incident, she just gave one bark but not a normal bark. Maybe she gave me a clue and I didn’t pay attention.”
