REPORT:Women’s Asia Cup T20 2022: Sri Lanka beats Pakistan in last-ball thriller to set final date with India
RESULT: SLW 122/6, PAKW 121/6; Sri Lanka Women won by 1 run: Only Pakistan can do this. They were in such control but failed to hold their nerve as Sri Lanka beats Pakistan by just 1 run with a run-out in the last ball and with that the Islanders will meet India in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022.
PAK-W 110/4 after 18 overs: Maroof falls and what on earth has the Pakistan skipper done! She gifts her wicket and at a very crucial moment but credit to Sugandika Kumari for keeping her calm and packing off the Pakistan skipper. This might just be the opening as Pakistan needs 13 runs from 12 balls.
PAK-W 89/3 after 15 overs: Pakistan needs 34 off 30 balls and with Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar in the middle, Pakistan should ace this run chase. However, a wicket here will give Sri Lanka hope as a derailment can happen.
PAK-W 78/3 after 13 overs: Pakistan Women need 45 runs in 42 balls and it’s the experienced pair of Nida Dar and Bismah Mahroof who are at the middle. It’s a tight run chase but Pakistan given their depth in batting will fancy their chances for a date with India in the final.
PAK-W 55/2 after 8 overs: Sidra Ameen falls but Pakistan is well and truly on course in the run chase. Ameen was never comfortable in the middle, scoring 9 off 20 balls and she has consumed a lot of deliveries to give Sri Lanka an advantage. Omaima Sohail is at the crease and the fifty is up for Pakistan.
PAK-W 43/1 after 5 overs: Bismah Marood and Sidra Ameen are at the crease and Pakistan going strong in the run chase despite the fall of Muneeba Ali. Sri Lanka needs to make futher inroads.
PAK-W 17/0 after 2 overs: Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali have given Pakistan a bright start with both openers attacking the Sri Lanka bowlers. Ali has hit a boundary and Sri Lanka needs wickets to defend a total of 123.
SL-W 122/6 after 20 overs: Nashra Sandhu took three wickets as Sri Lanka women posted 122 for the loss of six wickets. Harshita Madavi was the top scorer with a 41-ball 35 followed by Anushka Sanjeewani with a 21-ball 26. Sri Lanka began well but failed to accelerate and Pakistan will be happy with their bowling effort. Back for the chase in a bit.
SL-W 97/3 after 17 overs: Pakistan has done well to dry up boundaries and not allow Sri Lanka to run away with the game. Madavi and Perera have to up the ante and with three overs remaining, it will be interesting to see how Sri Lanka goes about the finish kick.
SL-W 87/2 after 15 overs: Harshitha Madavi is playing a gem of a knock and the partnership is worth 48 off 55 balls. Both batters are rotating the strike well and the running between the wickets has been good. Pakistan has to break this stand and will try to make inroads but Sri Lanka is ready for the final charge.
SL-W 63/2 after 10 overs: Nilakshi de Silva and Harshitha Madavi have forged a 29-run partnership and the good thing for Sri Lanka is the run rate hasn’t dipped, rather gone beyond six runs per over. Madavi is striking at 110.0 and the tide has just turned in Sri Lanka’s way. Pakistan need wickets to stop the run flow.
SL-W 47/2 after 8 overs: Nilakshi de Silva and Harshitha Madavi have started the rebuilding work and Pakistan has taken away the early momentum that Sri Lanka had got. The current run rate is 5.78 rpo and Sri Lanka will look to keep wickets in hand and take the attack to the opposition.
SL-W 39/2 after 6 overs: Nashra Sandhu strikes and Anushka Sanjeewani walks back for a well-made 21-ball 26. She got the start but failed to convert into a big one and Pakistan has negated the toss factor as they have got Sri Lanka two down inside the PowerPlay.
SL-W 23/1 after 4 overs: Nida Dar strikes and she gets the prized wicket of Athapaththu as she cleans her up with a tossed up delivery and the inside edge castles the stumps. The Sri Lanka skipper tried to go over the mid-wicket but failed to do so. She smashed Sadia Iqbal for a maximum down the ground and wanted to up the ante but this time Pakistan has the final laugh.
SL-W 9/0 after 2 overs: Sadia Iqbal and Nida Dar have started proceedings for Pakistan with Anushka Sanjeewani and Chamari Athapaththu opening the innings for Sri Lanka. Both batters are off the mark and will look to give their side a good start.
