Result: Sri Lanka beats Netherlands by 16 runs
NED 146/9 after 20 overs: Sri Lanka has managed to stay alive in the tournament as they beat the Netherlands by 16 runs. Max ODowd hammered a brilliant unbeaten 71 off 53 balls and managed to take the game till the last ball but it was way too much with the asking rate climbing. Sri Lanka prevail. to enter Super 12s
NED 105/6 after 16 overs: Binura Fernando castles Edwards and the batsman pays the price for playing a sweep shot but Fernando’s full delivery clattered the stumps. Just when Netherlands was gaining some sort of momentum, Fernando strikes to pull them back. A direct hit from Dhananjaya from long-on has firmly put Sri Lanka on top of the game as Netherlands needs 58 runs in 24 balls.
NED 96/4 after 14 overs: Netherlands needs 81 runs in 42 balls and in comparison Sri Lanka scored 102 runs in their last 10 overs. Scott Edwards and Max ODowd are trying to target the spinners but it’s not easy on a pitch where there is turn and bounce. The required rate has climbed up to nearly 11 runs per over with Netherlands going at close to 7 runs per over.
NED 77/4 after 12 overs: Maheesh Theekshana strikes and provides a vital breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Tom Cooper’s poor run in the tournament continues and he falls for an ambitious sweep only to get deceived by the flicker that skidded away from the batsman. Scott Edwards walks in to join Max ODowd.
NED 63/3 after 10 overs: Tom Cooper and Max ODowd are into the rebuilding work but they need some big overs as the run-rate is constantly climbing with each passing over. Dasin Shanaka has been introduced into the attack and is operating with Wanindu Hasaranga in tandem. Important passage of play as while Sri Lanka will look to keep a lid on the scoring and pick wickets, Netherlands will eye to tilt the momentum in their favour.
NED 54/3 after 8 overs: Colin Ackermann departs for a first-ball duck and Hasaranga takes a clean caught and bowled to put Sri Lanka on top. Sri Lanka is attacking with fielders in the circle and with wickets falling, the run rate has climbed up to nine runs per over against the current run-rate of 6.4 rpo. The Netherlands is under the pump and Sri Lanka believes it can extend its stay in Australia.
SL 40/2 after 6 overs: Huge wicket and Lahiru Kumara has given Sri Lanka further control in the PowerPlay as the inf-form Bas de Leede falls and the Sri Lankans are ecstatic. Back of length delivery and all that Bas de Leede did was opened the face of the bat and tried to run it down only to give an easy catch to Kusal Mendis. Sri Lanka right in this game.
SL 27/1 after 4 overs: Sri Lanka strikes and it’s Maheesh Theekshana who provides the breakthrough inside the PowerPlay. He ends Vikramjit Singh’s stay at the crease and the opener wasn’t very comfortable in the middle. Goes for a wild slog sweep to only find Shanaka at mid-on. Binura Fernando, meanwhile is bowling quick and Sri Lanka is on the attack.
NED 14/0 after 2 overs: Max ODowd and Vikramjit Singh begin Netherlands’ chase of 163 and Sri Lanka started proceedings with spinner Dhananjaya de Silva. Lahiru Kumara from the other end has troubled Vikramjit with pace and bounce as the left-hander gets beaten outside the off-stump. He is not looking comfortable and Lahiru’s pace has unsettled the opener. Good start from Sri Lanka.
SL 162/6 after 20 Overs: Sri Lanka will be happy with the score they have put on the board as after a slow start in the first 10, Kusal Mendis led the charge with a brilliant 44-ball 79 and the last five overs yielded 53 runs for the loss of just three wickets. Mendis was at his belligerent best smashing five hits to the fence and as many into the crowd as Sri Lanka will believe they have the score to keep themselves alive in the tournament. The Netherlands started well with the ball in the first 10 overs with Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede sharing four wickets. But, they leaked runs in the second half to give Sri Lanka a fighting total. Back for the chase in 10 minutes.
SL 138/4 after 18 overs: Bad de Leede strikes to remove Rajapaksa but for Sri Lanka, the good news is that Kusal Mendis is still out there. They are scoring at almost 10 runs per over as the last five overs have produced 50 runs. Kusal Mendis is joined by the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka and the duo will eye some big hits to give the finishing kick.
SL 119/3 after 16 overs: The Sri Lankan flags are flying high in the stands and the 100 comes up with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Kusal Mendis motoring nicely. Mendis has brought his fifty up and despite the fall of Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka hasn’t lost the momentum. Important for Mendis to hold fort and provide the finishing touches.
SL 96/2 after 14 overs: The fifty-run partnership between Asalanka and Mendis is up and this has been a wonderful recovery from Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan supporters are right behind their team with drums and pipes ringing loud and Mendis is approaching his half-century. Netherlands will look to dry the boundaries and break this partnership.
SL 78/2 after 12 overs: Kusal Mendis has decided to attack and he deposits van der Guten over the long-leg boundary for a maximum. It was a fantastic pick-up shot and with that Sri Lanka marches ahead, trying to tilt the momentum in their favour. They haven’t lost wickets in the last five overs and the run-rate is now 6.5 rpo. 12 runs come from van der Guten’s over.  They need some good overs and then go big at the death.
SL 60/2 after 10 overs: Paul van Meekeren’s double strike did push Sri Lanka on the backfoot but they have managed to keep the scorecard ticking by playing some adventurous shots. Sri Lanka has scored 38 runs in the last five overs on a track where there is turn and bounce. The good thing for Sri Lanka is that Kusal Mendis is still out there and has forged a 24-run stand with Charith Asalanka. The Netherlands, meanwhile has been terrific with the ball with their spinners and pacers posing questions to the Sri Lanka batsmen.
SL 42/2 after 8 overs: Paul van Meekeren has given Netherlands control as he yorks Nissanka first and then traps Dhananjaya de Silva to leave Sri Lanka in trouble. Fast and full, and the pacer was on a hat-trick but narrowly missed it. If pace has got wickets, the spin of Roelof van der Merwe has tied up the Sri Lankans. Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka have a job in their hands.
SL 36/0 after 6 overs: Two boundaries and a maximum is what the Netherlands conceded inside the PowerPlay with Pathum Nissanka giving the charge to Tim Pringle. A caught and bowled chance goes down as Paul van Meekeren fails to hold on to an uppish drive from Pathum Nissanka and Sri Lanka trying to take the attack to the opposition. It’s been a high-intensity PowerPlay with Netherlands attacking for wickets and Sri Lanka looking to break free.
SL 18/0 after 4 overs: Kusal Mendis attacks and he is up and running with a neat boundary to the deep mid-wicket region and Pathum needs to get a move on. The Netherlands’ opening bowling pair will try and restrict Sri Lanka to as little as possible in the PowerPlay and there is a lot of chatter from behind the stumps. Roelof van der Merwe purchases turn immediately after being introduced into the attack and this isn’t looking like a high-scoring one. Sri Lanka will fancy anything above 150.
SL 5/0 after 2 overs: Fred Klaasen begins well as he hasn’t let the Sri Lanka openers go for their shots and from the other end it’s the spin of Tim Pringle. There is plenty of turn and grip and the spinner has given just two runs from his opening over. Sri Lanka needs a good start in the PowerPlay and capitalise later as the match progresses.
Right then, we are done and dusted with the anthems and the Dutch chalking out strategies in the huddle and out walk the Sri Lanka openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis. For the Netherlands, it will be Fred Klaasen, left-arm medium fast who will start proceedings. Here we go!
Both teams line-up for their respective national anthems and it’s going be a very important match for both sides. A loss for Sri Lanka will see the Islanders pack their bags early. For the Netherlands, the Dutch will look to punch above their weight. Time for the National Anthems.
Netherlands Playing XI: Max ODowd, Vikramjit Singh, Bas de Leede, Tom Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Scott Edwards(w/c), Tim Pringle, Roelof van der Merwe, Timm van der Gugten, Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren

Pitch Report: There is bit more grass. It makes it easier for the batters to hit it square of the wicket. The batters would want to hit it down the ground.
