UAB fall practice report: Light day ahead of second scrimmage – AL.com

2022 UAB fall camp
The UAB football team wrapped up its 16th practice of fall camp Friday, ahead of its season opener against Alabama A&M, Thursday, Sept. 1, at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
A mild day with cloudy skies was on hand as the Blazers went through a light day of practice before their second scrimmage tomorrow.
Here are some observations from the limited access period provided to the media:
— UAB will hold its second and final scrimmage of fall camp Saturday evening at Protective Stadium. Head coach Bryant Vincent would like to see a repeat of last week, in terms of gameday procedure, as well as a better start from the offense and a strong finish from the defense.
— UAB continues to have a healthy fall camp with only a few bumps and bruises suffered through three weeks. Linebacker Tyler Taylor returned to practice after missing a couple of days but Nikia Eason Jr. is still sidelined. Defensive linemen Matthew Craig is currently wearing a walking boot on his right foot and Kevin Penn is out with a knee injury, both injuries are considered non-serious and Craig and Penn are expected back within the next few practices.
— Speaking of injuries, two players who opened fall camp rehabbing from previous injuries, junior college offensive lineman transfer Tater Reid and true freshman safety Carl Fauntroy Jr., could very well be cleared for contact within the next week. Both will have to acclimate to practice, from shells to full pads, but could see some action this season before using the four-game redshirt rule.
— The depth chart is filling up as camp comes to a close and a clearer picture of who opens the 2-deep for the season opener should come following the scrimmage.
— A scout from the Buffalo Bills was in attendance at practice today. The Blazers have received visits from multiple NFL scouts during fall camp.
